“It is all about location....” The apartment was clean, and the beds were soft. Their were plenty of towels and all the basics needed for a comfortable stay. The best part was the proximity to everything in Helen. I parked my car and never got in again, until I drove to Anna Ruby Falls.

“nice, quiet, clean, all staff and owner very helpful” It confuses me that the original cost of the cabin was $95.00/ night and I found out later that I had Been Billed @$238.00 /night, 716.00 total, I understand that there are cleaning fees and taxes to be paid, but to more than double the agreed price give me a break....flip key has a lot of nerve to do this.

About Dahlonega

The city of Dahlonega is probably best known for its gold rush, but vacationers come here all year round for its natural beauty, outdoor pursuits and historic downtown area.

Browse FlipKey’s vacation rentals in Dahlonega to find the perfect accommodation for your trip.

About Dahlonega

In 1828, Dahlonega was the site of the USA’s first gold rush. Today, it’s tourism that’s boosting the local economy. Many of the gold mines are still open today as tourist attractions, where you can get an insight into what life was like for miners during the gold rush and even pan for your own gold!

Just a short drive from Atlanta, Dahlonega is at the heart of the ‘North Georgia Wine County’, with numerous vineyards and wineries in the area. The Chattahoochee National Forest covers much of the county, attracting lovers of outdoor pursuits throughout the year.

While you’re here, don’t miss the opportunity to sample regional wines and enjoy authentic, Southern-inspired cuisine. Most restaurants focus on seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients, and there are also several excellent Mexican eateries downtown.

What to do

Start your trip with a visit to the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site, where you can find out more about the city’s gold rush. Take a guided tour of one of the area’s gold mines. The Consolidated Gold Mine gives you an insight into the working conditions during the gold rush and lets you find your own gold during your stay. Sounds fun, right?

Lovers of the outdoors should head for Chattahoochee National Forest. Here, you can go hiking, biking or horse riding on miles of trails, or enjoy kayaking or canoeing on the Etowah or Chestatee Rivers. Dick’s Creek and the Etowah River are popular spots to fish for trout.

In the historic downtown area, you can take a ghost walk and see if you can spot the ghosts of Civil War soldiers in Mount Hope Cemetery. While you're there, catch a live show at the Holly Theater or stroll around the galleries in North Public Square.

Top Dahlonega travel tips

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to enjoy Sunday brunch at one of the region’s wineries – and sample some local wine while you’re there!

For domestic flights, the nearest airport is Athens-Ben Epps Airport (66 miles) whilst for international flights, it’s 75 miles to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Although summers here are the warmest time to visit, winters in the North Georgia Mountains can be peaceful, and it’s a great time to explore the area’s wineries.

Whether your idea of a dream vacation is sampling local wine in Georgia’s vineyards, staying active, or dining on the finest Southern cuisine, Dahlonega has plenty to offer.

With dozens of cozy mountain cabins and lodges to choose from, you’re sure to find a Dahlonega vacation rental with FlipKey.
